Funding Rate Heatmap: Essential Alpha & Trading Mechanics
What is a Crypto Funding Rate Heatmap?
A Funding Rate Heatmap visualizes the cost of holding perpetual futures contracts across top cryptocurrencies. Positive rates mean long traders pay shorts (market is bullish/overleveraged), while negative rates mean short traders pay longs (high risk of a short squeeze).
How to trade extreme funding rate anomalies?
When funding is deeply negative (< -0.05%), crowd shorts are trapped, creating optimal conditions to execute long squeeze trades on MEXC or Bybit. When funding is excessively positive (> +0.08%), consider hedging spot holdings or longing cash-and-carry yields.
